Lamont Roach Jr. Moves Closer To A Title Fight with Eliminator Win Over Angel Rodriguez




Upper Marlboro, MD super featherweight Lamont Roach Jr. (23-1-1, 9 KO's) won by unanimous decision over Angel Rodriguez of Columbia (20-2, 10 KO’s) in a twelve round WBA eliminator bout on the Garcia vs. Fortuna undercard at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California.

Roach got off to a good start early in the fight by taking the fight to Rodriguez. In the third round Rodriguez connected with a low blow that caused Roach to take a knee. Roach looked like he was in pain. Roach recovered well and bounced back to stagger Rodriguez with a right hand in the fifth round. From the sixth through the eighth rounds it was Roach who kept up the pressure having Rodriguez backing up. 

In the ninth, Roach to pile up points used his jab stayed on top of Rodriguez and continued putting his shots together to dominate Rodriguez as the final round ended. The judges scored the bout 117-111, 116-112, and 116-112.

The winners from the Washington, DC, Maryland and Delaware will advance to the Regional Championships where they will take on the winners from Virginia and North Carolina on July 30th at Rosecroft Raceway.
