Baltimore Boxing Presents “Rumble Young Man Rumble” August 4

Baltimore, MD (July 13, 2016) – Jake Smith’s Baltimore Boxing Promotions will pay tribute to legendary Muhammad Ali with “Rumble Young Man Rumble” Thursday, August 4 at Michael’s Eighth Avenue in Glen Burnie, MD.

During Baltimore Boxing’s June 16 card, Smith, who had his first amateur fight as part of a charity event hosted by Ali, honored “The Greatest” with a speech and honorary ten count. He also announced that his next card would be named after Ali.

Headlining is a heavyweight slugfest between Dallas Butts and Drew Ryan. In their first meeting, Butts won a controversial decision that upset the pro-Ryan crowd and immediately set the tone for a rematch. Ryan is confident he’ll leave no doubt as to whom the better fighter is and Butts believes he’ll win without question this time around.

Baltimore Boxing standout Joey “Bazooka Joe” Veazey returns for his final amateur fight against Rashad Kirkpatrick. He was scheduled to finish his amateur career by competing in the Ringside Tournament but instead opted to fight locally. Veazey, who is turning pro later this year, won various titles during his decorated amateur career and has a large fan base.

Wildly popular Clayton Frazier will face an opponent to be named. A multi-sport star, Frazier is amongst the hungriest local fighters and is coming off a victory June 16.

Justin “Psycho” Sykes and Ashton “The Goon” Sykes will appear in separate bouts and other fighters will be added shortly.

“Michael’s Eighth has been a great home for Baltimore Boxing and we’re expecting another solid crowd,” said Smith. “This will be our second consecutive card paying homage to the great Muhammad Ali. “Rumble Young Man Rumble” will feature all competitive fights and boxers giving everything they have to entertain the crowd. LORENZO “TRUCK” SIMPSON DOMINATES THE 2016 NATIONAL JUNIOR OLYMPICS!

AMATEUR BOXER LORENZO “TRUCK” SIMPSON WINS GOLD AT THE 2016 NATIONAL JUNIOR OLYMPICS

Baltimore’s Simpson won a gold medal and an award for Most Outstanding Male Boxer of the tournament at the 2016 National Junior Olympics, held in Dallas, Texas.

     On Saturday afternoon, July 2, 2016, Baltimore's sixteen year-old amateur boxer, Lorenzo "Truck" Simpson, won his third fight in four days at the Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center in Dallas, Texas, to win a gold medal in the 2016 Junior Olympics National Boxing Tournament at 165 lbs. More than 900 young boxers from across the United States qualified and registered for the tournament, which was held June 28-July 2, as part of the Dallas Sports Festival. Following his win, tournament organizers awarded Simpson with "Most Outstanding Male Boxer" of the tournament. Simpson trains with boxing coaches Calvin Ford and Kenny Ellis at Upton Boxing Gym, located on Pennsylvania Avenue in Baltimore, Maryland. This school year, Simpson will be an 11th grader at Franklin High School in Reisterstown, Maryland. Following Saturday’s win, Simpson’s amateur boxing record improved to 161-2.

     Lorenzo Simpson said, “I've worked really hard for this. Winning the National Junior Olympics was something I always believed I could do, but things happen in life that sometimes don't allow it to all work out. I did everything I could to win, listened to my team and my coaches, and it paid off for me. I'm happy to bring my gold medal and the Most Outstanding Male Boxer of the tournament award back to Baltimore. I'm proud to be from Baltimore, and I think it's great for my city. I appreciate all the support and messages I've received. I'm looking to build off this win, keep working to get better, and then just see what comes next. Thank you to Baltimore City Parks and Recreation, all the staff at Upton Boxing Center, Nike Boxing, Athlete Performance Solutions, Shane Goodell, my team, my family, friends, and everyone who contributed to my training camp and the wins in Dallas.”

     Coach Kenny Ellis (Upton Boxing Center) said, “I’ve been saying it for years that Simpson is truly God gifted. He takes his craft seriously and his success isn’t a shock to anyone who has been around him. I have to pinch myself to really make sure he’s really a nine-time champion. So far, he has won six Silver Gloves National Titles, two PAL National Titles, and now a Junior Olympics Gold Medal. Scary to think he’s still only sixteen years old.”

     Simpson’s head boxing coach, Calvin Ford (Upton Boxing Center), said, “This is another big legacy win for Truck. He dominated competition at this tournament and he's seeing all the work that he's put into the gym is making a difference. He made history last year as a six-time Ringside National Silver Gloves Tournament winner and now he's added a gold medal at the Junior Olympics. If he continues to build on these achievements, he has a very good chance to be the most decorated amateur boxer in USA Boxing history. We are giving him the week off from the gym, and then we’ll sit down and begin planning for what comes next. I'm a really proud coach right now.”

     His mother, Danica Ward, said, “The trip to Dallas was an experience like no other. I never dreamed that I would wake up having the Junior Olympics Gold Medalist as my child. I commend each boxer for handling the pressure of fighting in a room full of people with four rings, the sound of bells ringing, people yelling, and someone standing in front of you who wants to destroy you. Over the years, I have learned that boxing is 90% mental and 10% skill. July 1 marked the twelfth year anniversary of his father’s death. While he didn’t show it, I later learned via his social media that it was on his mind during this competition. I’m proud that he placed his emotional struggle on the backburner so that he could achieve his goal.”

World Class Pro Boxing returns to the D.C. area on Saturday August 6th at the Hilton Crystal City in Arlington, Virginia.  An 8-round junior welterweight battle between Forestville’s Myke "The Professor" Fox (10-0, 2 KOs) and Martinsville, VA’s Somner "Magic Man" Martin (5-2, 3 KOs) will headline the 10-fight card presented by Kings Promotions and Keystone Boxing.

A explosive matchup between two undefeated heavyweight prospects will serve as the co-main event.  Bowie’s Luther “Lights Out” Smith (5-0, 4 KOs) will face former NFL linebacker Mike “Silverback” Balogun of Upper Marlboro (6-0, 5 KO’s) in a 6-round battle.

Also being featured on the card will be Frederick middleweight Devar “Jengawar” Ferhadi (6-0, 5 KOs), St. Louis junior welterweight Kent Cruz (10-0, 6 KOs), Atlantic City light heavyweight Antowyan Aikens (10-2-1, 1 KO), Frederick cruiserweight Darnell “The Unknown” Pierce (4-0 , 1 KO), Greenbelt cruiserweight Sam “The Vanilla Gorilla” Crossed (3-0, 1 KO), D.C. featherweight Marcus “The Dreamcrusher” Bates (3-0-1, 3 KOs), and the professional debut of “Slick” Justin Hurd.

Baltimore’s undefeated rising star looks to extend his winning streak on Friday night at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida.

     On Friday night, June 3, 2016, undefeated lightweight professional boxer, Gervonta "Tank" Davis (Baltimore, Maryland/pro record: 15-0, with 14 KOs) will return to the ring for the second time this year, and face Mario “Huracan” Macias Rorozco (Iztacalco, Distrito Federal, Mexico/pro record: 28-18-0, with 14 KOs). Davis-Rorozco is scheduled for eight rounds on Premier Boxing Champions, live on Spike TV, from Hard Rock Live at The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida. In the main event, Rances Barthelemy will face Mickey Bey. 

     In Davis’ last fight, April 1 in Washington, D.C., he defeated Mexico’s Guillermo Avila, live on Spike TV. In that fight, Davis dropped Avila in round 5 with a straight left hand. Avila beat the count, but in the next round, Davis landed a barrage of uppercuts, forcing referee Michelle Myers to stop the fight at 0:29 of round 6. Davis earned his 15th win, while Avila’s record dropped to 16-6, with 13 KOs. This will be Davis’ second professional fight held in the state of Florida. On October 30, 2015, Davis defeated Cristobal Cruz by TKO at The Venue at UCF in Orlando.

     The 21-year-old Davis discussed his upcoming fight. He said, “I’m looking forward to showcasing my talent in South Florida, so make sure you get your tickets now. I’m excited to put on a show for the fans at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. I’ve had good sparring leading up to the fight, so I’ll be ready for anything my opponent tries to do. I never take it easy on any opponent, and he will see that on June 3. Floyd said I would be in the ring a lot this year, and that will help me get ready for a title shot soon.
