Richard Abril did everything a fighter was supposed to do to win a fight. This is why the Rios victory ended in a very controversial split decision. Abril out boxed and frustrated Rios for twelves rounds. The problem started on Friday April 13,2012 when Rios failed to make the 135 lb weight limit by being over 2 lbs. The fight continued but the vacant WBA Lightweight Title was out of the picture. The fight was determined by Rios aggressiveness and the holding tactics of Abril. Judges scored cards Glenn Trowbridge 115-113, Jerry Roth 116-112 for Rios and Adalaide Byrd 117-111 for Abril.
