The question should be "Was this the kind of fight Gaines was expecting?" Renaldo "Misunderstood" Gaines came into this fight ready. This was the professional debut of James Young of Lincolnton, NC. Gaines came into round one showing he was the much faster fighter at the start. After that Young seemed to shake of his ring jitters and start fighting. Young landed some solid shots that seemed to show they bothered Gaines. In rounds 3 and 4 both fighters looked very tired. This is where Gaines showed he was the more in shape fighter by out punching Young to the unanimous win. The score cards read 39-37, 39-37, and 40-36 all for Gaines.
