Washington, DC - On Thursday, September 18, 2014 at 7:00pm, a press conference will be hosted by the Ali family honoring a few of DC's heroes. The press conference will present a Mayor For Life book signing with former DC Mayor and current Ward 8 City Councilman Marion Barry plus DC's Boxing Heroes launching the DMV Honors Celebrity Weekend of Champions presented by GFS Entertainment Group.
'MAYOR FOR LIFE'
Ben's will host a discussion and book signing for Former DC Mayor and current Ward 8 City Councilman, Marion S. Barry, Jr.'s book Mayor for Life: The Incredible Story of Marion Barry, Jr' which was released by Strebor Books|Simon & Schuster on June 18, 2014. Mr. Barry and the Ali family are longtime friends, as his
friendship began years ago with the late
Ben Ali, Founder of Ben's Chili Bowl.
"My friendship with the Ali Family extends to almost 50 years. The restaurant's founder, Ben Ali, was a visionary who, because of his business acumen, successfully extended the Ben Chili Bowl brand nationally. Ben was someone who truly loved this City. I remember vividly that he was one of few business owners who allowed his establishment to remain open after the 1968 disorder; and who decided to remain open during the Metro construction, despite the toll the construction took on his business." He continues, "My longtime friend and his lovely wife, Virginia Ali and her children, have continued to run the business. They have done an exceptional job in preserving the brand; by remaining a mainstay in our community; and have successfully expanded their business beyond the 'U' Street corridor. I am honored by their support," says Mr. Barry.
DMV HONORS
GFS Entertainment Group and DMV Honors are elated to be part of such an historic event. DC PROUD is precisely equivalent to what DMV Honors represents.
