In the 10-round main-event for the vacant USBA and WBC USNBC Welterweight titles between Gerome "GQ" Quigley of Montgomery Village, MD and Raymond "Tito" Serrano of Philadelphia, PA at the Garden Ice House in Laurel, MD ended with Quigley suffering an accidental headbutt near the end of round one.
Quigley (18-0, 16 KO's) and Serrano (24-5,10 KO's) clashed heads during an exchange of punches that took place against the ropes. Referee Kenny Chevalier paused the bout so the ringside physicians could look at the cut to see how serious the injury was. At that time the physician made the call to stop the contest before the second round ended . It was because the bout didn't go past four rounds it was called a No Contest.
