The 23-year-old, Gervonta Davis of Baltimore, MD sized Ruiz up very quickly when he landed a combination that was capped off by a perfect right hook to send Ruiz to the canvas with a delayed reaction. Referee Jack Reiss took a good look at Ruiz and didn't see that he could continue. He waived the bout off by knockout at 2:59 of the first round. Gervonta Davis retains the WBA super featherweight championship title with a strong statement.
Davis remains perfect at (21-0, 20 KO's) while Ruiz falls to (39-5, 33 KO's).
