Booby "The Celtic Warrior" Gunn moved up from his comfort zone (Cruiserweight) to take on James "Lights Out" Toney for the IBU Heavyweight Championship. Toney weighed in at 248 lbs and Gunn came in at 210 lbs. The weigh-ins took place at the Fitzgerald Casino and Hotel in Tunica, Mississippi. It got a little heated up when both fighters started to taunt each other but was put to a complete stop after Mississippi Athletic Commissioner Effrem Goodman threatened both fighters with fines. The Fight took place at the Landers Center in Southaven, Mississippi on Saturday night April 7, 2012. Both fighters came in the ring looking like they wanted the title. Round 1 Gunn started to work his jab and Toney did the same. Toney started moving a little better in the 2nd and 3rd rounds by landing a few more shots than Gunn. In the fifth round Gunn was using more of his left hand to keep the distance between himself and Toney. After round 5 the Gunn's corner said that it was enough do to a injury to his right hand that he suffered in round 2. So because of that injury James "Lights Out" Toney became the IBU Heavyweight Champion.
After the fight Gunn said " I threw a body shot at Toney and he dropped his arm down to block the punch and I hit his elbow. I felt the pain shoot up my finger and hand. My corner tried to work on it through the next three rounds but the pain was too much to continue the fight."
