In 1976 Boxing was introduce on the collegiate level. The NCBA is part of USA Boxing and it has 25 colleges and universities participating nationwide. The program was started to give students athletes an outlet. National Championship belts are given to the top fighter in their weight class and Championship trophies are given to the best team in college boxing. The University of Maryland is one of those schools from the Eastern Region that is heavily involved in the program. Coach Lucas Runion is one of the coaches that works with the students at Maryland University. He came past the Old School Boxing Gym today to work out with two the his boxers.
