Tonight at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ undefeated Bowie, MD super lightweight Greg "The Sharpshooter" Outlaw put on a nothing but spectacular performance as he dominated Dan Murphy of Lanoka Harbor, NJ by second round TKO victory of a scheduled six-round contest.
According to reports from ringside it was the speed of Outlaw that was too much for Murphy. From previous fights the size of Outlaw was very noticeable. It looks like he added more muscle to his body frame.
It was a combination of speed and power that sent Murphy to the canvas three times in the second round. After the third knockdown the referee stopped the bout at 1:47 of round two.
Greg Outlaw remains undefeated at (5-0, 2 KO) while Dan Murphy drops to (3-2).
On a different note, Luther Smith was in a scheduled ten-round cruiserweight bout, but lost by first-round TKO to Alexey Egorov of Obninsk, Russia.
This was the first appearance in the United States for Alexey Egorov. His first four fights were in Russia against opponents who each had twelve fights or more. He stopped three out of the four of those opponents by knockout. Tonight was much of the same when he faced Bowie, MD's Luther Smith, who also had thirteen fights coming into this bout by which nine of them were by knockout.
In the opening round Egorov landed a hard shot on Smith that had a delayed reaction to send Smith to the canvas. Smith got back up but Egorov continued to press the action, backing him into the corner. Luther wasn’t throwing punches back in response to Egorov pressure so referee David Fields stepped in to stop the bout at 2:39 of the first-round.
Luther Smith (10-4, 9 KO's) while Alexey Egorov remains undefeated at (5-0, 4 KO's).
