The much anticipated bout for the Washington, DC area is now set. Peterson vs Holt will take place February 22, 2013 live on ESPN Friday Night Fights at the DC Armory.
Peterson 30-1-1 (15 KO's) has been inactive in 2012, but he still has been training very hard. His last fight was Dec. 10,2011 against Amir Khan. That was the bout where Peterson won the IBF lightwelter weight title, and the title he and Holt will be fighting for in February. Peterson will be 29 later this month and was originally supposed to fight Zab Judah 42-7 (29 KO's). Judah was the mandatory challenger for Peterson but he opted to take the fight with WBA and WBC champion Danny Garcia 25-0 (16 KO's) on February 9, 2013 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
Holt on the other hand has had a fight in 2012. On March 16, 2012 he knocked out Tim Coleman 19-2-1 at the Morongo Casino Resort & Spa in Cabazon, California. Holt is also a fighter that is signed with Gary Shaw Promotions. The Peterson vs Holt bout was put up for bid, which Shaw won the purse bid for $50,000.

2012 has been a very busy year for the Beltway Boxing area. This year there were fight cards scheduled almost if not every month. A lot of those cards had boxers that are named in this years Beltway Boxing 2012 awards. With that being said, this year Juan Marshall along with Gary "Digital" Williams decided to give out awards to the winners in the following categories:
Rookie of the Year
Prospect of the Year
Knockout of the Year
Bout of the Year
Card of the Year
Boxer of the Year
This year awards will be given out only because of the consistency of the fight cards, and the high volume of new professional boxers this year. Boxing hasn't been this active in the Beltway Boxing area in over 20 years.
You can go to Gary "Digital" Williams blog boxingalongthebeltway.blogspot.com for the most recent posting of the winners in some of the categories listed above. Gary has been posting day to day updates.
