WBO International Super Featherweight Champion
Upper Marlboro, MD super featherweight Lamont Roach, Jr. defeated Deivis Julio Bassa by TKO at the Oasis Arena in Cancun, Quintana Roo, Mexico.
This bout was nothing like Roach's first WBO title fight that ended in a draw against Orlando Cruz a few months earlier in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Roach set up the right hand by keeping Bassa off balance with body shots and counter punches. It was late in the third-round where Roach put together a three punch combination that finished with a right hand landing hard on the chin to drop Bassa for the eight count. From that point on it was Roach being the stronger fighter as he continued to pressure Bassa the remainder of the bout causing him not to answer the bell to start round seven.
Lamont Roach Jr. remains undefeated at (17-0-1, 7 KOs) as he is now the WBO International Super Featherweight champion while Deivis Julio Bassa falls to (20-5, 12 KOs).
