9 Year Old 2 Sport Athlete Deric "SCOOTER" Davis

Deric and Keisha Davis, parents of Scooter had no clue that on July 7, 2002 their new born baby boy would be such a gifted athlete. Scooter is a pretty good QB for his dads' / coach Pop Warner Championship football team The South County Chargers. Most importantly Scooter is an honor roll student at Cora L. Rice Elementary School in  Landover Maryland.  One day while Scooter and his parents were out shopping. Keisha Davis was sitting in the car and saw this guy with tattoos all over his arms and a boxing shirt on walk up to Scooter and her husband Deric. She thought to herself "OH MY GOD MY HUSBAND IS ABOUT TO GET INTO A FIGHT". Little did they know this guy was Buddy Harrison, owner of The Old School Boxing Gym located at the Rosecroft Raceway in Fort Washington, MD.  Mr. Harrison gave Deric Davis his business card and extended the offer to bring Scooter by the gym. From there it was history. Scooter was 7 years old when he started boxing and has been an Old School Boxer from then on. You have to be 8 years old to begin amateur competition boxing. His first boxing coach was Doug Avery. Coach Doug was the right person for Scooter. He showed Scooter how to sharpen up his already gifted ability to throw punches and move in the ring. Do to coach Doug's family and job commitments he no longer coaches Scooter, but on a coaching aspect Scooter never was left behind. Flip Johnson, well known trainer and  1978 Golden Glove National Champion jumped right in to become Scooters new coach. Between coaches Doug Avery and Flip Johnson Scooter has a 3-1 record. The one loss was in the Silver Glove Championship. Not bad for just 3 months of amateur boxing and starting in the Silver Glove Competitions. Scooter has family members that were former professional boxers, Brian "Showtime" Cook, and Boxing Hall Of Fame-World Champion Mark "Too Sharp" Johnson. Sugar Ray Leonard and Floyd Mayweather Jr are Scooter's favorite boxers.  It's still early but don't be surprised if you see Deric "SCOOTER" Davis  on television someday!!!
