September 7, 2013 By Gary "Digital" Williams FORT WASHINGTON, MD (9/7/2013) – Two exciting super middleweights will battle for the vacant WBC USNBC Super Middleweight title on Saturday, September 7 at Rosecroft Raceway in Fort Washington, MD on a Keystone Boxing Promotions card. Landover, MD’s “The Real Deal Phil Jackson-Benson will take on Scott “Cujo” Sigmon of Lynchburg, VA in the 10-round encounter. Jackson-Benson (12-1, 11 KO’s) is on a roll as he vies for his second regional title in as many bouts. In his last outing, the native of Queens, NY won the WBC Fecarbox Super Middleweight title with a seventh-round TKO over Maxell Taylor on May 11 in Millersville, MD. Jackson-Benson is also looking for his eighth straight knockout victory. Sigmon (23-4, 12 KO’s) is a former holder of the WBC USNBC title, winning the belt in February of 2012 with a third-round TKO of Jimmy Campbell in Greensboro, NC. Sigmon made two defenses of the title leading up to a nationally-televised bout with former world champion Kelly Pavlik on June 8, of 2012. Pavlik stopped Sigmon in the second round. Sigmon has only fought once since the Pavlik bout — a 10-round unanimous decision win over Michael Rayner in Lynchburg, VA on April 6 — and says that, win or lose, this bout against Jackson-Benson will be his last contest. One of the co-feature contests is a six-round all-Beltway junior middleweight contest between undefeated Alantez “SlyAza” Fox of Forestville, MD and Zain “Tiger” Shah of Centreville, VA. Fox (11-0-1, four KO’s) is coming off a six-round unanimous decision victory over Keith Collins on April 25 in Tulsa, OK. Shah (5-1, three KO’s, one NC) will be looking to bounce back from suffering his only loss — a first-round TKO against Harry Joe Yorgey on October 27 in Fairfax, VA. Shah is winless in his last two contests having a victory over Julius Kennedy in September of 2011 overturned in Virginia because the Virginia Commission ruled Shah punched Kennedy while Kennedy was on the canvas. The second co-feature contest features one of the DC-area’s top rookies — undefeated junior welterweight prospect Mike “Yes, Indeed” Reed of Waldorf, MD — against a true veteran in Ramesis “Payasito” Gil of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic in a six-round encounter. Reed, a former National Golden Gloves champion (4-0, three KO’s), is coming off an eye-opening third-round TKO win over Roberto Lopez on July 13 at Rosecroft. Reed showed great footwork and punching power in that contest as Lopez was stopped for the first time in his pro career. This will be Reed’s first scheduled six-round contest. Gil, however, will be the most experienced boxer Reed has faced in his young career. Gil (8-6-5, five KO’s) will face an undefeated opponent for the 10th consecutive time. Although Gil has lost his last two contests, he has notched notable wins against prospects like Carney Bowman and Luis Gonzalez who suffered their first losses against Gil and have yet to return to action. In four-round bouts on the card, undefeated DC lightweight Joshua Davis will take on Aaron Chavez of Vero Beach, FL. Davis (4-0, two KO’s) won a four-round unanimous decision over Darus Somieari on August 3 in Millersville, MD. Chavez (2-3-1) is coming off a first-round knockout loss to Neuky Santelises on May 15 in New York City. In a battle of DC junior welterweights, Ty “Showtime” Wright faces Benjamin “Wildcat” Olinga. Wright (1-0) fights for the first time since making his pro debut as a featherweight in June of 2009. Wright won a four-round unanimous decision over Hugh Hinds in Westminster, MD. Olinga (0-2) has not fought since suffering a fourth-round knockout loss to Kevin Womack in November of 2011 in Upper Marlboro, MD. DC junior featherweight Marcus “KO” Bates will take on Carlos Alcala of Hillside, IL. Bates (1-0, one KO) scored a first-round TKO in his pro debut against Joshua Hinnant on June 8 in DC. Alcala (0-1) lost his pro debut by third-round TKO to Kevin Rivers, Jr. on April 20 in Upper Marlboro, MD. Also, Germantown, MD light heavyweight Eric “Inferno” Govan will take on young veteran Jess “Thunder” Noriega of Lynchburg, VA. Govan (2-0) won a four-round unanimous decision over Steven Tyner on June 22 in Frederick, MD. Noriega (1-5, one KO) lost his last contest by four-round unanimous decision to Monreco Goldston on August 3 in Millersville, MD.
