Oxon Hill, Maryland Amateur Boxing Star Continues To Represent The United States On The Highest Level

Oxon Hill, MD's Jahmal Harvey made the transition from being a football player to becoming a highly accomplished amateur boxing star. Harvey knew his time as a football player was coming to an end when he recognized his size wasn't going to take him where he wanted be. His coach Darrell Davis gave Harvey an invitation to transition to the sport of boxing. When Harvey came to the gym, his trainer, Darrell Davis saw he had what it takes to become successful as a boxer. When Harvey joined the Oxon Hill Boxing Club he worked very hard and competed at a level that stood out from other. He fought locally for a short time and then started going state to state. Traveling was the best move for Harvey to get recognized by the USA Boxing organization. Harvey started competing in numerous national competitions where he was winning time after time to become the number one amateur in his weight class. After winning national tournaments the USA Boxing Organization invited Harvey to become a team member. Harvey represented the United States very well. 

Harvey, 20, has been tabbed by many as America’s next great boxer. He became the first American gold medalist at the World Championships since Demetrious Andrade in 2007. Last November in Serbia, Harvey shutout 2020 Kazakhstan Olympian Serik Temirzanov, 5-0, in the championship final. The next mission for Harvey is to come out on top in the 2023 Pan American Games.
