Mike "YES INDEED" Reed Coming To The Theater at Madison Square Garden In NY!

Mike Reed will return to the ring at New York City’s Theater at Madison Square Garden on HBO’s “Boxing After Dark” fight card.

WASHINGTON, D.C., U.S.A. – Top Rank light welterweight professional boxer, Mike “Yes Indeed” Reed (Washington, D.C.) will return to the ring on Saturday night, June 13, on HBO’s “Boxing After Dark” undercard, held at New York City’s Theater at Madison Square Garden. Reed will face Puerto Rico’s Luis Joel Gonzalez (11-1-1, 6 KOs) in an 8 round bout promoted by Top Rank, in association with All-Star Boxing. In the main event, Jamaica’s Nicholas “The Axe Man” Walters (25-0, 21 KOs) defends his WBA World Featherweight Title against Colombia’s Miguel Marriaga (20-0, 18 KOs), and in the co-main event, Puerto Rico’s Felix Verdejo (17-0, 13 KOs) will battle San Antonio’s Ivan Najera (16-0, 8 KOs). The fight card on June 13 takes place on the eve of the annual Puerto Rican Day Parade in New York City.

In his recent fight on the May 8 Tru TV non-televised undercard, held at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, Reed defeated Osenohad Vazquez by TKO at 2:00 of Round 2. Reed’s record improved to 14-0, with 8 KOs, while Vazquez saw his record drop to 8-4-1, with 3 KOs. Reed said, “My last fight went really well. I felt like I stuck to our game plan, which was to jump on him, hit him hard, and hit him early. I did what I was supposed to do and it really worked out for me. I knew from his last fight that he'd have doubt in his mind since he was knocked out in that fight, and I took full advantage of that. I've learned that I won't be able to continue making 140 pounds the way that I have been. My body is growing and changing, so it's time to start changing my diet with it. I'm already working in the gym and have started to shift my diet and cut weight.”

Reed discussed his fight with Gonzalez on June 13. He said, “I’m excited to be fighting at the Theatre at Madison Square Garden on a stacked HBO Boxing card. We are stepping up in opposition, and I’m ready for that. My opponent’s one loss came against Ramesis Gil, who I defeated earlier in my career. This should be a great fight, and I’m looking forward to the challenge. It’s an honor to fight on the eve of the Puerto Rican Day Parade. I’m looking forward to having lots of Puerto Rican fans get on board with Team Reed.”

Michael “Buck” Pinson, Reed’s father, trainer, and manager (Dream Team Boxing Gym/Clinton, MD), said, “I thought he did well in his last fight, and did was he was supposed to do. I didn’t appreciate him coming into weigh-ins at the weight he did. That being said, I was proud of his effort during the fight. Mike did put his punches together very well, and he used some of the things we’ve been working on in the gym. We are definitely looking forward to stepping up the competition on June 13 at MSG Theater. I’m excited to be back on another big HBO card, and it’s another great opportunity for us to show what we can do. We expect Gonzalez to bring his best, and we’ll be ready. We went back to the drawing board to improve on some things. In this game, the learning never stops, and there’s always room for improvement. Come June 13, we’ll be ready to put on a show at the Garden.”

Tickets to Reed’s fight at the Theater at Madison Square Garden are on sale now, and priced at $205, $105, and $55. Tickets can be purchased at the MSG Box Office and all Ticketmaster outlets. You can purchase tickets by phone at (866) 858 0008 or online at www.TheGarden.com and www.ticketmaster.com.

GERVONTA “TANK” DAVIS Gets 10th KO And 11th Win!

Baltimore’s undefeated pro boxer extended his win streak to 11 on Friday night at the Claridge Hotel in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

BALTIMORE, MARYLAND, U.S.A. – On Friday night, May 22, 2015, undefeated professional boxer, Gervonta "Tank" Davis needed just one minute and fifteen seconds to defeat Mexico’s Alberto “Ironman” Mora by TKO at the Claridge Hotel in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The fight was scheduled for eight rounds, but Davis landed an uppercut just a few seconds into the fight that floored his opponent. Mora beat the count, but still appeared to be hurt. Davis then backed him up with a body shot, and followed up with a combination that knocked out Mora’s mouthpiece. The referee waived the fight off at 1:15 of Round 1. With the win, Davis’ record improved to 11-0, with 10 KOs, while Mora’s record moved to 5-4-0, with 1 KO. The Kings Promotions fight card, entitled “Rumble At The Claridge,” was held at the hotel’s Celebrity Theater, and was not televised. In the main event, Brooklyn’s Juan Dominguez defeated Mexico’s Marco Macias by TKO in Round 2.

In his previous fight on February 20, 2015, Davis defeated Puerto Rico’s Israel “Macho” Suarez (Puerto Rico/pro record: 4-5-2, 1 KO) at the Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, winning by knockout at 2:13 of Round 1. Moments into the fight, the twenty-year-old Davis dropped Suarez with a barrage of punches, ending the contest after just 47 seconds.

Davis’ boxing trainer Calvin Ford (Upton Boxing Gym) said, "We had a solid game plan going into this fight, and we were prepared to go extra rounds with this opponent. Gervonta's skills proved to be too much for him, and it turned out to be a short night. We'll enjoy this win for a day or so, get some rest, and evaluate how we have to improve for the next fight. We will continue to build on this win. I want to thank all the people that bought tickets and came to the fight to support our team. It was real comforting to fight out of town and see so many familiar faces in the crowd.”

Gervonta Davis talked about his fight. He said, "I trained to go the full eight rounds, but in boxing, you don't get paid for overtime. I missed landing an uppercut in the first few seconds of the fight. I landed it a few seconds later, and that was the first knockdown. He got up from that one. I hit him a few more times after that, and the ref stepped in, and stopped it. I dedicated this fight to Valerie Barnes, who lost her life this year to cancer. I wore pink Nike HyperKO Boxing shoes, and a pink, white and black uniform with her name written on the back of my trunks. My best friend (Barnes’ son), Justin "Fiddle" Carter, was at the fight. After I won, the ring announcer spoke to the crowd about the dedication, and we brought “Fiddle” to the ring. It was just a real special night for us. I really wanted to win this one for Ms. Val."

Davis added, “Thanks to my manager, Al Haymon, and promoter Marshall Kauffman of King’s Promotions, for allowing me to fight on Friday’s card. Thank you to my team, Shoe City, Yekim Customs, Tvche, Everlast, Nike Boxing, Athlete Performance Solutions, Ethika, Baltimore Parks and Recreation, and Upton Boxing Center for being a big part of Team Davis. Thank you to everyone in Baltimore who came to my fight on the Team Davis bus trip, or drove from Maryland and other states. I appreciate all the media that came to see me fight. Because of the events that happened recently in my city, this win was a real positive moment for all of us. It shows kids that dreams can come true. It feels great to be 11-0. Keep supporting me, and I'll fight for you."

"The Pride of Alexandria (VA)" Brandon Quarles Returns To Springfield,VA!

The 15-3-1, (7KO;s) middleweight Brandon Quarles has been consistently training week after week waiting for the opportunities to keep competing. He has been fighting locally, up and down the east coast and also he's even fought on televised cards. Televised cards are the cards that every fighter wants to be on. Quarles was given three of those opportunities. Quarles defeated Corey Preston by split decision on HBO on July 9, 2011 in Atlantic City,  lost to Daquan Arnett on Showtime by unanimous decision on Jan. 11, 2013 in CA, and defeated Dennis Sharpe on Comcast by TKO in Washington, DC on Nov, 1, 2014.

BQ:  I learned from since fighting on TV, the reward has to out weigh the risk. Getting back on TV is not the problem, just making a opportunity for myself. When I do go back on the B side, the ball is a little more on my side. I'm still learning so club fights like the one June 6th gives me a chance to work on things. When I do step back on the road there will be know turning back, I'm a fighter! So fighting in someone hometown is never the problem for me, I love the challenge. But now days I'm looking at the Business side of it.. Even with 3 losses I put myself As a prospect and see myself getting a tittle shot. I come to fight & my style is entertaining . My time will come.

Brandon Quarles has three previous bouts that took place at the ABC Sports Complex. One of those bouts is when he won the Virginia State Middleweight title with a first-round TKO over Zain "Tiger" Shah back on Nov. 9, 2013. His next visit will be on June 6th when he takes on Jose Felix 11-17-2, (4KO's) in an eight round contest. Jose Felix isn't new to the Beltway Boxing area. This will be his fifth time back. He has fought Lawrence Jone, Tony Jeter twice and Larry Recio.

Quarles bout against Jose Felix will be part of the Jeter/RBA promotions card that will feature another VA State Title holder, undefeated welterweight Gerome Quigley  vs Benjamin Olinga as the main event.

Baltimore Boxing To Honor Police During “Blood, Sweat And Tears” Card May 29!

Jake Smith’s Baltimore Boxing Promotions will honor the Baltimore Police Department during a special Olympic style card Friday, May 29 at Michael’s Eighth Avenue in Glen Burnie, MD.

During the recent Baltimore Riots, a number of officers were hit with rocks, bricks and others items while attempting to stop violent protests. Overall, more than 100 officers were injured trying to prevent further damage to the city. During the evening, Baltimore Boxing will have a special ceremony honoring the department for their courageous efforts to stop violent protesters.

“ Baltimore was a very scary place last month,” said Smith. “I had to shut my gym down and know a lot of people had their businesses destroyed. If it weren’t for the brave men and women in law enforcement, things would’ve been even worse. I commend them for the job they did and honoring them during the card is the least that I can do.”

Fast rising heavyweight Sam “Vanilla Gorilla” Crossed returns to the ring less than three weeks after his most recent bout when he defends his East Coast Heavyweight crown in the main event. Crossed, who is turning professional after this fight, has shown tremendous improvement and always gives fans their monies worth. His opponent will be announced shortly.

Welterweight Allen Burris looks to continue his hot streak against an opponent TBD in the co-featured bout of the evening and other bouts will be announced shortly.

In addition to honoring the policemen and women, Baltimore Boxing is proudly teaming up with Unified Efforts. Since their founding in 2012 by former Baltimore detective Debbie Ramsey, Unified Efforts is a full-service bullying prevention organization that has helped raise awareness throughout the Charm City . To assist with the program, Baltimore Boxing will donate tickets and proceeds from a 50/50 raffle on fight night.

“This is going to be our second time working with Unified Efforts,” said Smith. “Debbie has a great heart and it was an excellent experience having her at our card last November. We are very glad to have Debbie and Unified Efforts promoting a great message in association with the fight card. Michael’s Eighth Avenue has been our most popular venue and was sold out for the last card so I advise everybody to purchase their tickets early because this will be a special event for the community."

Tickets for “Blood, Sweat& Tears” can be purchased by calling 410-375-9175 or going to Baltimoreboxing.com. Individual tickets start at $25 and VIP tables of 10 are available for $500.
