The number of homeless individuals in the DMV area increased from 11,547 in 2013 to 11,946 in 2014. Washington, D.C. has the highest number of homeless individuals out of the entire Washington metropolitan region with 7,748. The closest number to D.C. is Fairfax County, VA with a total of 1,225.
The numbers might not mean much to some people, but to the Peterson brothers they mean a lot. It wasn't too long ago that they were literally part of the homeless individuals walking the streets of Washington, D.C. not knowing where their next meal would come from. At 8 years old (Anthony Peterson) and 10 (Lamont Peterson) were introduced to Barry Hunter. Hunter met the two boys at a gym, and started them off on a journey that never ended.
Today, November 25th in conjunction with Al Haymon management, Team Peterson had a more hands-on experience by feeding the homeless through the SOME program (So Others May Eat) on O street NW, Washington, D.C. This was another moment that the Peterson's shared their story with the homeless. A story to show them that their future is brighter, and being homeless isn't a permanent situation.
