Jarrett Hurd And Travon Marshall Victorious In Bethlehem, Pennsylvania

In a battle of once-beaten super welterweights, Landover, MD's Travon Marshall took on Harrisburg, PA's Roudly Lolo. 

This contest was one of 12 fights on a Kings Promotions' "Ring Wars VII" event from the Wind Creek Event Center in Bethlehem, PA. 

It was a back-and-forth slugfest. Both fighters landed solid blows in the first round, with Lolo seemingly having the edge. 

In the second, Marshall had the edge. 

Lolo landed big shots in the beginning of the third. Marshall responded with his own power shots, with this right hand planting Lolo on the canvas. Impressively, Lolo was able to beat the count and continue in the bout. 

That did not last long, as Marshall's follow-up salvo lead to referee David Braslow to stop the fight. The official time of the stoppage was 2:14 of the third round, Marshall the winner by TKO. 

The stoppage returns Marshall to his winning ways, his record niw 9-1 (8). Lolo's record is 6-2-2 (3).

Former unified super welterweight champion, Jarret "Swift" Hurd of Accokeek, MD returned to the ring tonight at the Wind Creek Event Center in Bethlehem, PA. 

Hurd looked to snap a two-bout losing streak against Meridian, MS's Tyi Edmonds. 

Hurd versus Edmonds, an eight-round super middleweight bout, was one of 12 contests on Kings Promotions' "Ring Wars VII" event. 

It was a somewhat cautious bout early, with Hurd landing the more effective blows and controlling the action 

After landing some good shots in the third, Hurd took control in the fourth. 

Pictured, Hurd stands over Edmonds after a right hand to the body put Edmonds on the canvas. 

Edmonds was able to continued, with Hurd putting Edmonds down again in the fourth. Edmonds was able to finish the round. 

The official time of the stoppage was 3:00 of the fourth round, Hurd the winner by TKO. 

Hurd returns to his winning ways with the stoppage, his record 25-3 (17). Edmonds is 14-6 (9).

Franchón Crews-Dezurn vs. Shadasia Green December 15th

The WBC super middleweight title fight between Shadasia Green and former undisputed champion Franchón Crews-Dezurn will take place Dec. 15 in Orlando and serve as the co-main event of Jake Paul taking on Andre August. 

Crews-Dezurn (8-2, 2 KO's) last fought in July, losing the undisputed title to Savannah Marshall by majority decision. Her only two career losses are to Marshall and pound-for-pound No. 1 fighter Claressa Shields in the debuts of both fighters in 2016.

"I am looking forward to winning the WBC belt on my road back to becoming undisputed for a second time," Crews-Dezurn said in a statement. "Shadasia was always going to be my next fight.

"It's just under a little different circumstances but the same mission."

Green, 34, last fought in August, when she beat Olivia Curry by unanimous decision. Soon after, Green (13-0, 11-0), a former college basketball player at Old Dominion, was named the mandatory challenger.

"Stepping into the ring for the WBC super middleweight championship is a dream come true," Green said in a statement. "Franchón is a beast in the ring, but make no mistake -- when we meet in that ring, it's going to be an all-out war, and I'm coming for that title."

Jalil Hackett Stops Gutierrez In The Third And Wins WBC Youth Title

Mayweather Promotions 20-year-old welterweight prospect Jalil Major Hackett collected a title belt as he stopped Adrian Gutierrez (12-2-1, 6 KOs) in the third round, and won the WBC Youth Title on Friday night at the Red Owl Boxing Arena in Houston, Texas.

The bout served as the co-feature for Boxfest 6 which is an event that is designed to showcase the skills of promising young fighters. The vacant belt that was up for grabs, the WBC Youth Title, is a minor title for up and coming professional boxers.

Prior to the bout, the Washington D.C. native Jalil Hackett spoke on his goal of being a multi -division world champion and how he believes winning the WBC Youth Title would be a step in the right direction. Hackett also talked about his philosophy of ending fights early because boxing doesn’t pay overtime. 

In the opening round of the contest, Jalil Hackett worked the jab long enough to get inside, and once he got inside he landed multiple left hooks to the head and body of his opponent. As the first round was about to end, Hackett landed a big left hook that had Gutierrez on wobbly legs as he stumbled back to his corner.

Hackett went to work in the second round as he stood in the pocket and unleashed an aggressive head and body attack. He closed out the round by landing a sharp uppercut followed by a big right hand shot. 

The third round started off with both boxers standing in close range and trading punches. With 1:14 left to go in the third, Jalil Hackett landed a big left hand shot that sent Gutierrez down to the canvas. Gutierrez was able to get up but Hackett proceeded to hit Gutierrez with a flurry of shots that forced the referee to step in and put a halt to the contest. 

With the stoppage victory Jalil Hackett (8-0, 7 KOs) produced another early night at the office and he’s currently on a five fight stoppage streak. After the fight, Jalil Hackett was happy to get the win, but he was critical of his boxing performance.

 “It was a good performance, we got him out of there of course, a whole lot to work on, a lot of mistakes I made, but that’s what we got the gym for,” Hackett said. We’re going to go back and work on those mistakes in the gym, but for tonight we’re going to celebrate the good win against a tough opponent and back to the drawing board on Monday.”

Aaron Thorne III Brings Home Title From Columbia.

Undefeated Lanham, Maryland super middleweight Aaron Thorne III traveled to foreign land to battle Carlos Saenz in Sogamosa, Colombia for the Universal Boxing Organization (UBO) title on Friday, November 17. 

According to the UBO article on their website, Thorne, now (10-0, 9 KO's) was in a war with Carlos Saenz, 22-12 (16). The Lanham, Maryland native had to survive a serious scare before being crowned the new champion. 

After two rounds of back and forth action, and both boxers firing on all cylinders, the third round was even more eventful and ended up being decisive. 

Saenz slipped and hurt his knee, and had to be checked by the ringside doctor mid round. But he also dropped Thorne with a barrage of punches, and the favourite had to muster all his strength to beat the count of referee Dabiel Segura. 

Thorne fought back as best he could, and Saenz was not able to finish him, and neither man looked to be in a good state as the bell rang to end round three. 

The corner of Saenz decided to pull the plug on their man before the start of round four, due to the knee injury, making Thorne the winner by fourth round technical knockout. 

Thorne showed a big heart and big determination, but will also realize that he caught a break after being in trouble

“I am not happy with my performance, but we pulled it out against a cagey veteran”, said Thorne after the fight. 

“Its back to the lab to prepare for the next one, and now I have a target on my back. But we are in this business for a reason, and I want to thank TAC Management as this would not have been possible without you". 

Lamont Roach Jr. Captures WBA World Title

Another World Champion Returns Home To Maryland!

Upper Marlboro, Maryland's Lamont Roach Jr. won his first world title by out pointing the now former champion Hector Luis García to capture the WBA junior lightweight belt by split decision.

In his second attempt at a world title belt, Lamont Roach Jr. fought at his own pace in every round including dropping García in the 12th round and winning a split decision by the scores of 116-111, 114-113 and 113-114. The knockdown in the 12th made the difference as Roach avoided a probable rematch if the fight was scored a draw.  Roach landed a left-hook on the top of García’s head with 1:20 left in the round and García fell to the canvas for the second time of his career.

“Man, I’ve been waiting to hear ‘And the new’ for a long time,” said Roach, who improved to (24-1-1, 9 KO's). “It’s about time though. All I needed was the spotlight. The first time I was a baby – I was 24 years old. Now I’m seasoned. I don’t think anyone can beat me. Nobody.”

 

On the knockdown that decided the outcome: "We've been working on this shot for a long time, that hook,” Roach went on. “I'm the best and I want to show I'm the best. Anybody who wants to fight let me know because I want to fight all of you. There's a lot of cool champions at 130. I'll take whoever."

Roach came up short in his first title shot against the saouthpaw Jamel Herring in 2019, but made up for it on his second attempt against García (16-2, 10 KO's). García went up a weight class unsuccessfully when he challenged lightweight titleholder Gervonta Davis of Baltimore, Maryland earlier this year in January. García didn’t answer the bell in the ninth round, complaining of impaired vision.   

Lamont Roach Jr. Seeks To Capture Héctor Luis Garcia’s WBA Title

After winning the purse bid earlier this year on May 25, Tom Brown’s TGB Promotions, the primary promoter for Al Haymon’s Premier Boxing Champions agreed to add Roach Jr, and Garcia to the David Benavidez-Demetrius Andrade undercard November 25 in Las Vegas. Roach is the WBA’s mandatory challenger for the 130-pound championship.

Garcia (16-1, 10 KO's, 3 NC) verses Roach Jr. (23-1-1, 9 KO's) will be one of three bouts broadcast by Showtime Pay-Per-View before Benavidez and Andrade square off in the 12-round main event at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino’s Michelob ULTRA Arena.

The undercard will include WBC middleweight champ Jermall Charlo (32-0, 22 KO's) taking on Jose Benavidez Jr. (28-2-1, 19 KO's) in the 12-round co-feature.

Dusty Hernandez-Harrison Makes Quick Return To The Ring

On Saturday, October 21st Cory Sanders of #CYNATIONSPORTS will be presenting the first professional boxing card at the new Frederick Convention and Gaming Center in in Frederick, MD.

The card will feature local DMV fighters with Dusty Hernandez Harrison as the main-event when he will be taking on Sladjan Janjanin of Prijedor, Bosnia And Herzegovina.

Results From Beltway Boxers Competing In Philadelphia

On Friday night, September 15, Colby Madison of Baltimore, battled Joey Dawejko of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In a heavyweight rematch as the main-event on a Kings Promotions card at the LIVE Casino in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Also brothers from Baltimore, Maryland, Ibrahim Robinson battled Eliezer Olmeda of Gloucester, New Jersey in a 6-round welterweight contest. Along with Muhammad Robinson who was in a 6-round super lightweight contest against Najeem Johns of Darby, Pennsylvania.

Joey “The Tank” Dawejko and Colby Madison fought in an eight-round heavyweight rematch for the WBC US Heavyweight title.  

This contest was a rematch of a bout from May of this year, which Dawejko won by unanimous decision.  

Dawejko versus Madison II was the main event of Kings Promotions’ “Ring Wars V,” an eight-bout evening of professional boxing from  Live! Casino in Philadelphia, PA.

Dawejko controlled the first half of the bout, able to land left hooks and overhand rights to Madison's head from the outside.  

By the fifth, Madison started committing more to his jab, and he had success. Dawejko continued to come forward, still demonstrating the power advantage when he landed.  

In the eighth round, a left hook from Dawejko in the sent Madison staggering backwards towards the ropes. Referee ruled this a knockdown, as the ropes kept Madison from going down.

Madison was able to continue the bout. Dawejko kept the pressure on, and controlled the round. 

After the clap to signify the final ten seconds of this bout, Dawejko launched and landed this leaping left hook. Once again, Madison staggered into the ropes, and Dali ruled a second knockdown.  

Madison was able to finish the bout. The bout went to the scorecards. The official scores were 80-70, 79-71, and 78-72, all for Dawejko, the winner by unanimous decision.  

The Fight Photos scored the bout 78-72 Dawejko.  

Dawejko repeats his decision victory, his record now (26-10-4, 14 KO's). Madison’s record is (11-6-2, 7 KO's).

Tonight, from the Live! Casino in Philadelphia, PA, Kings Promotions presented “Ring Wars V”, a night of professional boxing featuring eight bouts.

The opening contest featured “Hitman” Robinson of Baltimore, MD against Gloucester, NJ’s Eliezer “King Lion” Olmeda in a four-round welterweight bout.

The southpaw Olmeda started out coming forward, working to establish his jab. That seemed to be working until a counter right hand from Robinson landed. The aftermath of that is pictured here, as Olmeda descends to the canvas. Olmeda was able to beat the count. 

Robinson's more accurate and powerful punches controlled the bout, with Olmeda being game and effectively taking Robinson's shots. 

The bout went to the scorecards. The official scores were 60-53, 60-53, and 59-54, all for Robinson, the winner by unanimous decision. Robinson gets his sixth win, his record (6-0-1, 5 KO's). Olmeda’s record is 3-4.

Tonight, in Philadelphia, PA, two undefeated junior welterweights faced off. Baltimore, MD’s Muhammad “The Real Deal” Robinson took on Darby, PA’s Najeem “No Mercy” Johns.

Robinson versus Johns, scheduled for six rounds, was one of eight bouts on Kings Promotions’ “Ring War V” event. The action took place from Live! Casino Philadelphia.

The southpaw Johns caused trouble for Robinson from the start. Coming forward, Johns was able to land straight lefts on Robinson. 

At times a tactical bout, Johns controlled the contest with his aggression, activity, and stronger blows. 

Here, in the third, Johns opens up and lands a right to the body of Robinson. 

The bout went to the scorecards and there were no knockdowns. The official scores were 59-55, 59-54, and 60-54, all for Johns, the winner by unanimous decision. 

The decision keeps Johns unbeaten, his record (5-0, 4KO's ). Robinson is now (6-1, 2KO's).

Undisputed Super Middleweight World Champion Canelo Álvarez showed off the skills that have made him a global superstar during a live streamed workout Wednesday as he prepares to take on Undisputed Junior Middleweight World Champion Jermell Charlo headlining a SHOWTIME PPV on Saturday, September 30 from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Canelo Promotions will present the Premier Boxing Champions Pay-Per-View.

Canelo can add yet another benchmark to his already historic career with a triumph over Charlo and in doing so become the first man during the four-belt era to defend all four titles successfully three consecutive times.

Tickets for the live event, which is promoted by Canelo Promotions and TGB Promotions, are available through AXS.com. 

Wednesday’s workout streamed live on the SHOWTIME Sports YouTube channel and SHOWTIME Boxing Facebook Page and also featured Canelo’s renowned manager and trainer Eddy Reynoso. Here is what they had to say from their Lake Tahoe training camp:

CANELO ALVAREZ:

“I always want to make the best fights out there. I’m excited to be in this fight. This is a fight that people have talked about for a while. I’m excited to show the Charlos my skills. Now Jermell is gonna feel my skills.

“I think Jermell Charlo is the perfect fight right now. He’s been calling me out for a long time and I never forget. He’s said a lot of things. He never believed in my skills, but he’s gonna find out soon. Him and his brother didn’t believe in my skills and that motivates me for this fight.

“We always prepare 100% no matter where we are. It’s different being here. At the beginning, I couldn’t breathe very well. But right now, I feel great. I’ve found a place that’s made me happy and strong.

“Charlo will be good at 168 pounds. I’ve made that jump before so I know. I think that when you’re a great champion like he is, it doesn’t matter.

“These kinds of fights motivate me. I like being underestimated. That’s what makes me excited for this fight.

“I always believe that I’m number one. My whole career. Because you need to believe in yourself. I still believe I’m number one. But I believe there is more than just one fighter alone at the top, there are a few.

“I still feel young and fresh. I never think about the end of my career. I just train and fight year after year. I still feel that I’m at my best.

 “I’m very proud to represent Mexico. I have a lot of pride in my country. I feel amazing when I walk into the ring and see all the Mexican flags and hear the Mexican music. It feels great to represent my country.

 “I feel great. This is really one of the best camps I’ve ever had. I feel great to be able to train 100% now with my left hand. That’s made me more confident. When you train knowing that you’re healthy, you’ll be more confident in the fight.

“I like being here in Lake Tahoe because I’m 100% focused. It’s just me and my team and we’re focused on the fight. It makes me feel ready for the fight.”

 

EDDY REYNOSO, Canelo’s Manager and Trainer:

 “This is gonna be a great fight. Jermell is a great fighter who’s accomplished a lot in his career, so the fans are going to get an excellent matchup.

“There are times in a career where you have to change things up like training camp locations. We spent five or six years in San Diego and got a lot of great results. The altitude has been great for us here and we feel very good in Lake Tahoe as well.

“Canelo is ready to fight whoever it may be. Right now, we’re squarely focused on Jermell Charlo and that’s our task on September 30. We’ll be ready for whoever comes after that.”
